"Because her house in Bridgehampton, New York, 'meanders around corners and up and down steps,' design consultant Ellen O'Neill couldn't make sense of the flow. So she painted everything Benjamin Moore's Linen White: 'It's the blank-canvas approach.' A vintage English road sign gives the dining room a focal point. Red chairs from Design Within Reach. "It's not a real Chippendale chair, but who cares when it's painted such a delicious red? Farrow and Ball's Green Ground 206 on the walls is the perfect complement. 'I found this chair in Florida on the Dixie Highway and fell in love with the high fretwork back. In brown it looked dreary, so I painted it pomegranate red. It turned out so well I'm going to reproduce it,' " said Ruthie Sommers.

"Small dose, big impact: Eldon Wong used a rich saturated red on the back interior of the cupboard built into the dining room wall of this 18th-century stone house. The brilliant color perfectly accents a 1950s Rosenthal china service by Raymond Loewy. Benjamin Moore's Redstone was used in Eldon Wong's cupboard."
