Horse

Popular and attractive to the opposite sex. You are often ostentatious and impatient. You need people. Marry a Tiger or a Dog early, but never a Rat.
From the Chinese Zodiac - as printed on a Chinese restaurant menu

Chinese New Year begins on Friday, January 31. In honor of the Year of the Horse - specifically, the Year of the Wooden Horse - I share photos of spaces celebrating the beauty and spirit of the horse . . .

"Two mares and a foal, part of Ryan's stock of Thoroughbreds, exercise in a field near a stone tower that Ryan had built to conceal a disused water tank. 'It's the first round tower built in 1,200 years,' he claims. 'There are 100 of them in Ireland. Now there are 101.' "

"Atlanta-based architect Keith Summerour designed this South Carolina lake cottage to capture maximum natural light. He used wooden ceilings throughout and also designed the living room fireplace, made from local granite. At the back of the sofa, an 1890s Italian console serves as a dais for an antique sculptural horse, probably a French toy. Reproduction bobbin turned-leg chairs are from Jerry Pair. The custom reproduction hooked rug, designed to resemble older rugs throughout the house, is by Laura Fisher."

" 'Frank Lloyd Wright couldn't design an ordinary-looking building,' says producer Joel Silver, who restored the little-known Auldbrass, Wright's 1939 plantation in Yemassee, South Carolina. A crushed-brick walkway leads to the barn. 'By folding the roof down and the corners of the doors back, Wright created something origami-like,' Silver notes."
